Installation Notes for e-Business

This topic highlights important information that you should review before running the Aptify e-Business installation program and includes the following sub-topics:

  • Install Methods for e-Business
  • Specifying an e-Business Server User Account
  • e-Business Installation Options
  • ASP.NET Sample Site: Aptify provides an ASP.NET sample site so that an organization can study the baseline functionality of the e-Business user controls without having to install a CMS to host it. See Installing the ASP.NET e-Business Sample Site for more information.
  • Required WCF Services for e-Business Sites Running Windows 2012 (Version 5.5.1 and up)

Note that for e-Business 5.5.1 and up sites running Sitefinity in an environment with Windows Server 2012, the WCF Services need to be installed (as shown in the example below).

  • Supported CMS Versions for e-Business
  • Securing e-Business Site Content and Suppressing Errors

Aptify strongly recommends that you use HTTP over a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to secure the e-Business site's content that cannot be accessed without logging in first. This will create an HTTPS site for non-public content. Refer to your specific CMS's documentation for information on how to secure content with SSL.

Also, Aptify strongly recommends that you turn on Custom Errors in your web.config before going live with your site. By default, Sitefinity creates a web site with Custom Errors set to Off, which is useful for development purposes but can expose sensitive web site information when left Off on a public site. Refer to ASP.NET documentation for more information the custom Errors web.config property.

  • Note Concerning Installing e-Business in a DMZ Environment

The standard Aptify e-Business install uses a domain user to communicate between the e-Business web server and the Aptify Database Server. However, if your e-Business site will run, or is running, in a demilitarized zone (DMZ), you may not be able to use a domain-level trusted user to run an e-Business site. Aptify supports these types of cross-domain installations using a "mirrored accounts" approach. In other words, a pair of local users with matching username and password must exist on both the web server and the database server. Starting with e-Business 5.0 Service Pack 2, Aptify improves support for DMZ installation by automating the local trusted user creation process on the web server. During the DMZ installation, if a local trusted user does not exist (that corresponds with a user on the database server), the e-Business setup program will create the local machine user on the Web Server with the necessary permissions to run the e-Business site. See Installing e-Business in a DMZ Environment for more information about this installation option.

If you have questions about installing Aptify e-Business in this scenario, please contact Aptify Technical Support or your Aptify Consultant.

  • Note Concerning the Starter Message Templates in e-Business (Version 5.5.1 and up)
Since e-Business 5.5.1, the Aptify Bulk Messaging system includes starter templates that are populated with Aptify-specific details. As a result, Aptify suggests users review, test, and update the message templates and check that message part links refer to the correct records and their PartIDs before use. For additional details on this please contact Aptify Technical Support.
  • Note Concerning the Create Company Administrator Process Flow (Version 5.5.1 and up)
e-Business 5.5.1 introduced a process flow that identifies a person as a company administrator on the e-Business site when a user checks the Company Administrator function on the Persons record. This process flow is fired by the After Save event for the Persons entity. If your organization does not intend to use the Company Administrator feature, you should clear the Active option for this process flow's After Save event handler.
  • Installing the Latest Windows Updates for e-Business 5.5.2 and up
Aptify recommends that you install the latest updates to the Windows server where you will be installing e-Business 5.5.2 and up.
