The upgrade process is critical to ensure long term adoption and success with the Aptify solution. Aptify’s upgrade philosophy is to protect our customers’ investment in Aptify by guaranteeing the sustained success of our customer base through continuous improvement and a direct upgrade path to future releases. Aptify offers an unparalleled combination of configuration flexibility coupled with a solid upgrade path. The long-term ROI and business value of staying current with Aptify technology is very favorable compared with the alternative of completely re-implementing when you've outgrown other solutions. By upgrading to the latest version of Aptify, clients can:
- Improve ability to support – Aptify only officially supports the last two major versions so staying current ensures clients can access help from both Support and the Aptify User Community.
- Benefit from new features – examples include Aptify Web, SOA, PCI 4.0, CES, Azure, e-Business 7
- Leverage new technologies – example include support for newer versions of OS, SQL, .NET framework, CMS, Javascript (React, etc.)
- Eliminate configurations and move closer to stock – over time common configurations work their way into the stock product; which then makes the client more supportable.
Major version upgrades normally come with underlying technology changes (SQL, .NET, Azure, possibly Windows Server), as well as functional and architectural changes in Aptify to keep up with current technology trends.
Aptify provides a tool-assisted upgrade path designed to preserve most of the configuration investment. Depending on the source Aptify version, the tools will vary in how far they will take you and how much refactoring will be necessary. For example, upgrading to Aptify 6.2 requires refactoring DLLs to a later .NET version, and upgrading to Aptify Web requires some additional configuration changes (detailed here: What needs to be reviewed or redeveloped when migrating to Aptify Web from Desktop).
Aptify actively supports the upgrade tools and will provide fixes when bugs are reports, and they are targeted to technical IT personnel or our Services team to assist in the upgrade.
