Using the Desktop Client Context Menus

A context menu is a menu that highlights options as available or unavailable depending on the context in which the option is called. The Aptify Desktop Client context menu displays when the user right-clicks in certain areas of the Desktop. Context menus provide a wide variety of functions specific to an area of the application or a particular item within the application.

Using the Ribbon Context Menu

The Ribbon Context Menu contains functions that are specific to the layout and configuration of the top area of the Aptify Desktop client.

To display this menu, right click in a blank area of the Ribbon. The context menu includes the following options:

Applications

When selected, the Applications toolbar appears on the Aptify Desktop client (below the Navigation Bar).

Show Quick Access Toolbar Below/Above the Ribbon

Changes the location of the Quick Access Toolbar to above or below the Ribbon depending on the current location of the toolbar.

Minimize the Ribbon

When selected, the Ribbon is minimized to show only the Application tab headings.

Lock Toolbars

When selected, the Applications toolbars is locked and cannot be changed its current position if enabled.

Customize...

Modifies existing or creates a new toolbar. Note that any customizations made do persist when you exit out of the current Aptify session.


Using the Home Context Menu

A context menu appears in the Aptify Desktop client when you right-click the Home entry in the Navigation Bar or Folder List. The menu contains two options:

  • Applications: Selecting this option opens the Application Selection dialog (see Adding an Application for more information).
  • Refresh Folder List: Selecting this option refreshes the contents of the Navigation Bar and Folder List.

Using the Application Context Menu

An Application Context Menu contains functions specific to applications. To display this menu in the Aptify Desktop client, right-click an application heading in the Navigation Bar (or Folder List). The context menu includes the following options:

Services...

Opens the Services dialog box to install or remove services from the Folder List for a specific application.


Using the Service Context Menu

The service context menu contains functions specific to services. To display this menu in the Aptify Desktop client, right-click a service heading in the Navigation Bar (or Folder List). The context menu includes the following options:

Description

New <Service> Record

Opens a new record for that particular service.

Find Items

Opens the Find Items dialog box to search for records in that service. See Using the Find Dialog for information on how to use the Find Items dialog.

Create Folder

Creates a new view folder in that particular service. See Creating a New Folder to Store Views.

Connect to Shared Folder

Connects to a shared folder.

Create View

Opens the Create View dialog box.

Paste View

Pastes a view below the service level in the Navigation Bar and Folder List (i.e., views pasted here are at the same level as folders). This option is only available after you have copied a view.

Properties

Opens the Service Properties dialog box, which displays general information about the service, such as the fields it contains, recent activity and deleted records. See Viewing the Properties of a Service for details.

Sort Ascending

Sorts the views and view folders within the service in ascending order (alphabetically). See Sorting Views and View Folders in a Service for details.

Sort Descending

Sorts the views and view folders within the service in descending order (alphabetically). See Sorting Views and View Folders in a Service for details.


Using the View Context Menu

The view context menu contains functions specific to views. To display this menu in the Aptify Desktop client, right-click a view in the Navigation Bar (or Folder List). The context menu includes the following options:

Open in New Window

Opens the selected view in a new window.

Cut/Copy/Paste/Delete

Standard editing functions.

Rename

Highlights the view name allowing it to be renamed. This is particularly useful after a view has been copied.

Add to Shortcut Bar

Adds the selected view to the Shortcut Bar.

Refresh

Reruns the view and retrieves up-to-the-second information from the database.

Properties

Opens the View Properties dialog box for viewing or editing.


Using the Folder Context Menu

The folder context menu contains functions specific to view folders. To display this menu, right-click a view folder in the Navigation Bar (or Folder List). The context menu includes the following options:

Description

Create Sub-Folder

Creates a folder underneath the current folder.

Create View

Opens the Create View dialog box to create a view in the folder.

Delete

Deletes the folder from the Folder List and Display Window.

Paste View

Pastes a copy of another view within the folder. This option is only available after you have copied a view.

Rename

Highlights the folder name allowing it to be renamed.

Properties

Opens the Folder Properties dialog box for viewing or editing.


Using the Dashboard Part Context Menu

The Dashboard Part context menu contains functions specific to dashboard parts. To display this menu in the Aptify Desktop client, right-click within a dashboard part's title bar (that is, the bar across the top that displays the part's name). Note that the title bar must be displayed to see this menu (you can specify whether or not to show the title bar in the Dashboard Part's configuration screen).

The context menu includes the following options:

Edit <Dashboard Part Name>

Opens the Dashboard Part form.

Remove Part

Displays a dialog box allowing the user to delete the dashboard part.

Open in a new window

Opens the selected dashboard part in a new window.


Using the Display Window Context Menu

The Display Window context menu contains functions specific to the records within the view that is open in the Display Window. To display this menu in the Desktop client, right-click within the view shown in the Display Window. The context menu includes the following options:

New Record

Opens New Record form for the view's service.

Open Record

Opens the selected record.

Delete

Deletes the selected record.

Merge Records

Displays Aptify Merging Tool dialog box to aid in duplicate data management. This tool is available only with appropriate entity permissions.

Add To List

Adds this record to a list.

Report Wizard

Activates the Report wizard in order to select a report to be printed.

Print Record

Prints the selected record.

Print View

Prints the view open in the Display Window. This option is reserved for future use. To print a view, use the File > Print menu option.

Messaging

Opens the Aptify Messaging dialog.

Record History

Displays a history of modifications made to the selected record.

Object Viewer

An alternative way of accessing data within records. This feature is available only with appropriate entity permissions and should be used with caution as it completely bypasses any business logic set up for that service, which could result in a risk to data integrity if users do not fully understand the system.

Refresh

Reruns the view and retrieves up-to-the-second information from the database.

View Properties

Opens the View Properties dialog box for viewing or editing.

Clear Record Selection

Removes highlight from all records so that no records in the view are selected.

Select All

Selects all records that appear on-screen within the view.

Sent To

Sends a link to a system record as an email attachment. The feature is only available for list views. See Sending a Record Link as an Email Attachment.

Find in [Column Name]

Opens the Find in Column dialog to search within the selected column. See Search Using Find in Column Dialog.

Find Again in [Column Name]

Searches for the next record in the column that matches the search term you entered in the Find in Column dialog.
