The Aptify LMS setup program can be broken down into two different actions:
- Installing/updating the Aptify database server components
- Installing/updating the Aptify e-Business web server components
When installing Aptify LMS for the first time or updating to a new release, the standard method is to install or update the necessary components for both the database and the web server (as described in Installing the Aptify LMS Module or Updating Aptify LMS). However, depending on your environment, you can also perform each action within the installation or update process separately by selecting (or clearing) the applicable options. The sections below describe each step and where to locate the action in Installing the Aptify LMS Module or Updating Aptify LMS, if you choose to install or update the LMS components separately. You can see an example of a separate component's installation process in Example Separate Action Installation Method.
Installing/updating the Aptify Database Server Components
This action installs or updates the LMS database and the necessary Aptify database server components, including the Course Import Wizard and supporting entities and objects. For installing the database server components, see Step 16 in Installing the Aptify LMS Module for more details about the information required to complete this part of the install. For upgrading the database server components, see Step 16 in Updating Aptify LMS for more details about the information required to complete this part of the update.
If you are installing or updating the database and web server components separately, you must install or update the database server components first: Aptify e-Business web server components can only be installed or upgrading after the Aptify database server components.
Installing/updating the Aptify e-Business Web Server Components
This action creates or updates the AptifyLMS application pool in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows, which is run by the LMS User specified in the step and installs or updates the ScormEngine and Courses web applications. For installing the database server components, see Step 14 in Installing the Aptify LMS Module for more details about the information required to complete this part of the install. For updating the database server components, see Step 14 in Updating Aptify LMS for more details about the information required to complete this part of the update.
Example Separate Action Installation Method
This subsection describes an example Aptify LMS installation procedure where the actions are performed separately for an environment with two servers (one from which the database updates are installed and the second from the e-Business web server to install the web components).
- Install the database components from the first server by starting the installation process and performing Step 1 through Step 13 in Installing the Aptify LMS Module.
- In Step 14 of Installing the Aptify LMS Module, clear the option to install the Aptify e-Business web server components, and click Next.
- In Step 16 of Installing the Aptify LMS Module, select the option to install the Aptify database server components, enter the necessary database user credentials, and click Next.
- Complete the remaining steps in Installing the Aptify LMS Module, ensuring that you identify the users who should have access to the AptifyLMS database.
- When you are ready to install the web server components on the e-Business web server, start the installation process by performing Step 7 through Step 13 in Installing the Aptify LMS Module .
- In Step 14 of Installing the Aptify LMS Module, select the option to install the Aptify e-Business web server components, enter the web server settings for your Web server, and click Next.
- Complete the remaining steps in Installing the Aptify LMS Module, ensuring that the options to complete the other actions in Step 16 are cleared.
- The installation is complete.
The same steps can be used to perform a separate action upgrade. See Updating Aptify LMS for the steps.
