e-Business Server Requirements

Aptify e-Business provides a self-service Web interface for an organization's customers and/or members. While e-Business can be hosted on the same computer that is running the Aptify database server (this configuration is suitable for development environments), in general, e-Business is installed on a separate Web server.

This topic describes the hardware and software requirements for a computer that will host an e-Business website. Note that these requirements are independent of the requirements for the Aptify database server.

Hardware Requirements

The hardware requirements for a server to run e-Business are listed below:

Minimum Hardware Requirements

At a minimum, a computer that can run Windows 2008 Server and IIS Server 7.0 6.0 can also support the e-Business module. However, Aptify recommends that an organization use a computer with the following minimum specifications:

• 2 GB RAM
• 2 vCPUs

Mid-Point Hardware Requirements

• 8 GB RAM
• 4 vCPUs

High-End Hardware Requirements

• 16 GB RAM
• 8 vCPUs

Software Requirements

The following is a list of software requirements for a computer that will host an e-Business website, broken down by release:

• Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 operating system running the latest service pack.
  • This includes the Microsoft Windows Server Web Edition operating system.
  • This applies to 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Server operation systems.
     
• Microsoft IIS 7.0 or higher with ASP.NET 4.0 or 4.5
  • To manually confirm that ASP.NET 4.0.30319 is available on the computer, follow these steps:
    • Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager (from Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools).
    • Select the Application Pools List from the console tree.
    • Right-click on one of the application pools and select Basic Settings.
       
  • On the Edit Application Pool dialog, confirm that 4.030319 appears in the .NET Framework version drop-down list.
     
• Aptify Windows Desktop client
• Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (4.5 for Windows 2012)

  • For Windows 2008 servers, the Web server can be set up with this pre-requisite using the Microsoft .NET Framework Web Installer which can be downloaded at:

    The e-Business 5.5.3 installation program requires ASP.NET 4.0 or later, and this is the version of .NET used for both sample sites by default. ASP.NET 4.0 is required for new e-Business sites. If you have an existing ASP.NET 2.0 site that you are upgrading to e-Business 5.5.3, you can continue to run that site under ASP.NET 2.0. 

    Certain e-Business 5.5.3 user controls leverage functions that are available in ASP.NET 4 but not in ASP.NET 2.0. Therefore, you may experience errors when applying control updates to your existing site. See Updating an Existing e-Business Site for more information. 

• Telerik RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX

  • Aptify e-Business leverages controls included with Telerik RAD Controls for ASP.NET AJAX. e-Business 5.5.3 uses version 2014.2.618.40 of the Telerik.Web UI assembly.

Content Management System Requirements

The following is a list of requirements if you are planning on integrating with a third-party Content Management System (CMS), broken down by release:

• The CMS must support ASP.NET user controls, such as Telerik Sitefinity or Ektron CMS 400.NET.

  If your CMS uses its own version of Global.asax, additional integration work will be required. Contact Aptify for assistance.

• Aptify provides out-of-the-box integration with the following Content Management Systems:

  • Telerik Sitefinity: The International Coffee Executives (ICE) starter site with e-Business 5.5.3 is based on Sitefinity 8.1 (version 8.1.5800). Implementations that do not leverage the ICE starter site can use an earlier version (back to Sitefinity 4.4) or a newer version. For implementations that leverage the ICE starter site, those must begin with Sitefinity 8.1 and can be upgraded as needed. Contact Aptify Support if you have any questions about Sitefinity version support.

    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 and higher is required for any new Sitefinity sites with e-Business 5.5.3. If you are updating an existing Sitefinity site to e-Business 5.5.3, SQL Server 2008 is still supported.

  • Existing Telerik Sitefinity Sites with e-Business: Community Edition Version 3.7 (note that this support extends to only existing Sitefinity sites running e-Business, not for new e-Business installations).
  • Existing Ektron CMS400.NET Sites with e-Business: Versions 9.0 SP 1 (note that this support extends to only existing Ektron sites running e-Business, not for new e-Business installations).
