Users can create templates for views that contain frequently used formatting. Then, a template and its settings can easily be loaded to a new view. This feature can simplify the process of creating new views by providing a set of built-out templates that include commonly used features.
View templates do not store Advanced SQL.
View templates support all types of views. This section provides the following information on view templates:
Note to Administrators
Aptify's view template feature is based on the Entity Record Template functionality. As with record templates, all users have access to view templates and view categories created by any other users by default. However, an administrator can modify the security settings for these templates and categories as necessary. See Administering Record Templates for details.
Creating a View Template
Follow the below steps to save a view as a template:
- Open the View Properties dialog for an existing view that you want to use as a template.
- Click the Save Template... button.
- The Save Template dialog loads.
- On the Save Template dialog, enter the name of the template in the Name field. You can also enter a Description (optional).
- Create or select a template category from the Category drop-down list.
- Each category appears as a tab heading in the Select A Record Template... dialog when selecting a view template.
- Follow these steps to create a new category for your template:
- Click the New button next to the Category field to open the New Template Category dialog.
- Enter a name for the new category in the field provided and click OK.
The system automatically creates a new Entity Record Template Categories record for the category. This category is available to all users by default. See About the Entity Record Template Categories Form for more information on Entity Record Template Categories.
- Click OK.
Editing a View Template
Follow the below steps to edit a view template:
- Open a new view in the service associated with the template that you want to modify.
- For example, if you want to modify a Persons view template, open a new Persons view.
- Click the Load Template... and select the template that you want to modify.
- The template's properties load into the View Properties dialog.
- Modify the template's properties as necessary.
- Click OK to save the view and close the View Properties dialog.
- Open the View Properties dialog again for the view you just created.
- Click the Save Template... button to open the Save Template dialog.
- Enter the exact name of the template you want to overwrite with your new changes in the Name field.

Select the template's category from the Category drop-down list.
The system will create a new template if you fail to specify the exact Name and Category for the existing template that you are attempting to edit.
- Click OK.
- Assuming that you entered the correct name and category, Aptify displays a message box indicating that this template already exists.
- Assuming that you entered the correct name and category, Aptify displays a message box indicating that this template already exists.
- Click Yes to update the existing template with your new changes.
Loading a View Template
Follow the below steps to load a view template:
- Select the service for which you created a view template.
- Right-click and select the Create View option.
- Click the Load Template... button on the dialog.
- On the Select A Record Template... dialog, select a template for the view.
- Click OK.
- The selected view template loads with the configured preferences.
- Enter a Name for the view.
- Modify the template's view properties as desired.
- Click OK to load the view.
